Move to Alvecote Marina – Walk to Tamworth and falling by the wayside

This morning we moved into the marina where we will leave the boat while we go to London. The pontoons are very narrow here and I had to be careful not to step back when I got off to moor up! We are moored next to a boat called Genesis but there doesn’t appear to be any one on it at the moment.

We have been unable to use the electric on this pontoon but as we have the solar panels and 12v fridge this is not so much of a problem as it would have been last year. We will have to run the engine tomorrow though I fear as it is going to be cloudy and wet all day. Besides I need to do some washing and drying.

We had a bit of a panic on this morning when the shower pump stopped working. Ken had the switch off and checked it but it wasn’t that so he said he would have to have a look at the pump and the wiring etc later. I bailed out the shower tray with a plastic jug and a cloth so I could have my shower without flooding the bathroom. After my shower I bailed it out again. I was just finishing that when clever clogs decided to check the fuse in the engine room and lo and behold – a working shower pump! Why didn’t we think of it before? Who knows!

After this bout of plumbing we set off to walk to Tamworth railway station to get a replacement Senior railcard for Ken and to collect our tickets which I ordered online. This was a walk of 3.5 miles there and would have been 3.5 miles back, obviously, had we not have had a call from Phil on Black Pearl who was heading towards us from Hopwas.

We told him what we were doing and he said he and Rosie would wait at The Gate at Bridge 69 for us to come back from Tamworth. When we got there we had a couple of pints (as you do) then they gave us a lift back to the marina thus saving us about a mile and a half’s walk. Mind you I had to drive some of the way while Phil went in and got the drinks organised!

They are going up the Ashby now but we may see them again when we get back from London as we will both then be heading towards Fradley.

Tomorrow’s forecast is not very good but we have plenty of inside things to occupy ourselves until it’s time to go to the pub.
