Thursday 4th June
Today we spent mostly shopping and walking. After breakfast we went to Sainsbury’s, firstly for a beer stock up session. As the supermarket is so close to the moorings it is an ideal opportunity to get all the heavy and cumbersome stuff in.
We loaded the trolley with 4 cases of lager and cider and a newspaper! The lady on the checkout said ‘Oh, party time’. We didn’t say it would only last about a week (not really).
After stowing the beer back at the boat we went for a ‘proper shop’. You know, food and things. The dinette, fridge and all the cupboards are now stuffed. We will have to find a bit of room for a return visit on the way back as it is so convenient though.
After doing the shopping we went for a walk to find the Enterprise car hire depot. We found this surprisingly easily, even with our obvious directional failings. After enquiring about hiring a car from them for an up coming trip home and deciding they were lacking in value and customer service skills we left without booking anything.
We then decided to walk down the canal to Trent Bridge for a recce mission as we are going there tomorrow. This is about a 30 min walk which can also be done along the road which runs alongside the canal for part of the way.
When we got to Trent Bridge we had to go to the Trent Bridge (Wetherspooons) to recover, obviously. Actually I really did because unfortunately I was suffering from ‘first wearing of last year’s summer shoes’ syndrome and needed to do remedial work on my blisters before I could walk back!
We walked back some time later and accidentally fell into the Company Inn on the way past for a ‘Harry Lasters’ and another blister review.
Tomorrow we are going to Trent Bridge.
