A move to Trent Bridge was on the cards today as we had done our 48 hours on the restricted moorings at Sainsbury’s. This trip is 2 miles and 2 locks with a stop at Meadow Lane for sanitary purposes.
When we arrived at the County Hall steps we found it to be a lot more crowded than it had been yesterday when we had our recce mission but we still got moored up easily.
Tying the boat up here is a bit of a challenge because the mooring rings are up the steps quite a long way from the bank and we had to swap the short back rope for a longer one so it would reach. We also like to put a chain on when we are moored here just in case. If anyone decided to let us loose we would float off downstream towards Holme Pierrepoint. That is always assuming we didn’t crash in to Trent Bridge or Lady Bay Bridge on the way!
After mooring up securely we walked in to town. Funny really, yesterday we were moored in town and walked here, today we are moored here and walked into town!
We went to the tourist information office for a street map and then went to Budget for another go at hiring a car. Then we went to ……………….. yes the pub! Today’s people watching outside the Company Inn (Wetherspooons) was priceless. Some of this was due to the warm weather changing everyone’s dress code and not always for the better! Some was no doubt due to the close proximity of the Crown and Magistrate’s Courts.
We had a couple there then walked back and stopped in the Riverside Bar, just across the river from where we are moored up, for one. This is a bit more exclusive establishment and there was a wedding party in which made for a totally different people watching experience.
We were going to go to the T20 Blast cricket match tonight but the weather looked a bit iffy and indeed it did rain a bit so we didn’t go in the end.
Tomorrow we are doing useful things …………….. maybe.
