Day at Westport Lake

Friday 4th June

It has been another superb day weatherwise, sunshine all the way. This morning we went to Asda in Tunstall. Tunstall is a suburb of Stoke on Trent and is about 5 minutes walk from the moorings. I’m afraid Tunstall is a tad run down, like so much of the suburbs of Stoke on Trent it seems (see photos of Longport). We didn’t hang around sampling the delights of the high street!

Later we took George to the Packhorse Inn in Longport. It was really hot today and he did very well to get there, especially as we went the wrong way to start with (again!) The publicans had only taken the pub over a few months ago and it did need a bit of TLC but it was ok. They didn’t have any real ale though so I had to have guinness, which I like but can have at home.

When we got back Ken and I walked round the lake, which is not very big but is lovely. As luck would have it we happened upon an ice cream van and just had to have one (see photographic evidence)!

We are moving on tomorrow, to Stoke if we can get a mooring at Festival Park but as it’s the Etruria Canal thing this weekend we are not hopeful. If we can’t moor in Stoke we will carry on to Barlaston.
