Saturday 5th May
We have come a HUGE distance today – 3 miles! When we arrived at Festival Park there were no boats moored anywhere at all. This surprised us because of the Etruria Canal Festival which is this weekend and Etruria is not far from here, we thought it would be packed.
We moored at the Toby Carvery again, which is lucky for 3 reasons. 1) We don’t have to go far to get George to the pub. 2) We can go to Morrison’s and get a taxi back to the pub car park so we can do a big shop. And we can go to Pets at Home again. 3) We can have another carvery for dinner tomorrow night.
Being moored outside the pub also has it’s disadvantages. It has been another lovely day and there have been a lot of people both in the pub garden and walking past on the towpath. This has made it a bit like being moored in a goldfish bowl. People do tend to just gawp in your windows like you’re not there! Even when we are sitting outside they just ignore us and look in anyway, amazing! That said, we do meet some really nice people while we are moored up. Hello to the chap with the little tripod (he’ll know who he is!)
There is a Black Prince Holiday boatyard here and some New Zealanders who were waiting for their hire boat to be ready came over and had a chat. They were very complimentary about our boat and not so complimentary about our dog, poor old George! Lots of people on their way to Etruria and back stopped for chats too. A couple with their dog sat on the wall opposite the kitchen port hole and watched me the whole time I was washing up after dinner. Must have been fascinating for them!
Seriously, it’s good fun really. People are entertained by watching us and we have just as much entertainment watching them. This hot weather has brought out some huge expanses of female flesh I can tell you. Not much of it good and none of it mine either!
