Last Tuesday we went to Thurmaston and stayed above the lock overnight. Wednesday we moved across to our old mooring on the steps at MGM so we could discuss with them some work which we want done later in the year.
We had a very enjoyable stay catching up with Martin, Mark and Rachel, Pete and Trish, Matt and Cesc, Neil and Karen and of course Barry and Barbara who returned from their travels on Friday.
We went in to Leicester a few times, walked round the water park a couple of times, visited the Hope and Anchor at Syston and the Harrow in Thurmaston (still the best cobs on the bar any where!)
Today we finally moved on again. Braving the gusty wind and the potential wrath of a fisherman we managed to get off the steps and turn round without incident and travelled 4 miles and 2 locks and are now back at Sileby, moored below the lock.
When we arrived there was a boat, crewed by 3 ladies of a certain age, trying to pole themselves off the weir at the end of the moorings. We offered to help but by the time we had moored up they had got off the weir and somehow become stuck on the opposite bank instead! There was nothing we could do to help them with that. Eventually they managed to get under way.
After we had sorted ourselves out we decided to walk to Mountsorrel. This is about a mile to the lock and a nice walk. We went to the shop for a paper etc then Ken went to the fishing tackle shop. By this time it had got out quite hot so as we had to pass The Waterside Inn it seemed a good place to have a rest before going back (our excuse) to the boat.
While Ken was getting the beers I put up the parasol at the table. He had just put the beers on the table and sat down when a gust of wind blew the parasol over, which in turn knocked his pint over. Luckily it fell away from him depositing it’s contents in the empty chair opposite. Still, he was not best pleased!
When calm returned and I had put the parasol on the floor out of the way we spent a pleasant hour or so watching the boats coming in and out of the lock.
Back at the boat we found we were no longer alone and have a boat nearly moored in our cratch! Because of this Ken decided not to fish from the cratch and started doing some from the kitchen hatch instead but soon gave up as the water is still crystal clear.
Tomorrow we are moving on, probably to Kegworth.
