Today we got up early (for us) and were away by 8-30am. We completed the 6 mile and 2 lock journey to Loughborough in exactly 3 hours.
At Mountsorrel Lock the landlord of The Waterside Inn was doing his gardening. Nothing unusual about that except that he has a couple of planters on the off side of the lock. And why not, they look very nice. However, this morning after we got in the lock he decided to water said planters. Not with a watering can but by running his hose pipe across the lock behind our boat.
As it happened this passed without incident but if Ken had reversed over the hose as it dangled in the water it could have caused problems. As it was right behind him Ken found it difficult to reverse far enough back in the lock for me to get the gate open but never mind.
We had a good run through Barrow and as we approached Loughborough we decided not to carry on all the way to Kegworth today but to stop on the B and Q moorings just before the T Junction. We haven’t moored in this particular spot in Loughborough since the first time we came through here 6 years ago.
After mooring we walked in to town for the usual. I also popped to Peacocks for 2 t shirts to replace 2 which I accidentally tumble dried on hot and which now won’t fit teddy! Unfortunately this particular branch of Peacocks hadn’t got the colours I require so I will have to look in Long Eaton when we get there.
Ken has abandonned the fishing for the time being because the river is so clear. The couple on the boat in front of us seem to be doing a ‘fish-a-thon’, taking it in turns to man the rod but not much is being caught there.
Tomorrow we are going to Kegworth, definitely.
