Friday 18th June
Friday started off ok weather wise. We left Canal Cruising Co in warm sunshine. It was not quite as hot as the previous 2 days but very pleasant. However after a short while it started raining and it never left off! We hadn’t envisaged stopping at Barlaston but it was so wet we decided it would be the best thing to stop at the Plume of Feathers while we decided what to do. The rain showed no sign of abating so we thought we would move up a bit and stay the night. By this time it had turned so cold I had to light the fire!
Of course we had to ensure we had a tv signal for the England game, so we moored up where we had moored the first time we went through Barlaston in April and achieved a result immediately. Pity England couldn’t have done the same thing! The less said about that the better! There was a fireworks display nearby after the match giving us further entertainment. Obviously this wasn’t someone celebrating England’s success!
