Barlaston to Etruria

Saturday 19th June

There has been a bit of an improvement in the weather today, as in, it’s not  raining. However there is a strong North wind taking the edge off the temperature somewhat!

We have travelled 5 and a half miles and 6 locks to Etruria at the start of the Caldon Canal. At the water/elsan point we met Penny again on her way back from up the Caldon. She is now going to go up the Macclesfield again. We may well decide to do that after this trip up the Caldon as we really enjoyed the Macclesfield, so we will probably see her again.

Talking of seeing people again I forgot to mention we saw Barry and Barbara in Stone again last week. Actually, Barbara heard there was a boat from Thurmaston in the vacinity, during a conversation with the two people who were having their blacking done at Canal Cruising while we were there. She came to the Star Inn as she said she knew she would find us there. I don’t know what she meant! Anyway they are on their way back to Thrummy for a while. They have travelled a lot further than we have in virtually the same time but we don’t exactly get a shift on!

Next, we are probably going up to Stockton Brook for a couple of days. We aren’t going to make it up to Consall Forge for the steam trains tomorrow, we will have to wait until next Sunday for that so there is no hurry. Unfortunately the Leek Arm, which was supposed to have reopened on 13th June is still closed. It won’t now reopen until 5th July so we can’t go up there to waste some time. Never mind, I’m sure we’ll  manage.
