Ragley to Willington – Sunshine after the rain!

Today has been a much better day weather wise than yesterday. Yesterday it pissed down all day, it had in fact been raining since 10pm the previous evening. We did a soggy walk to Asda at Sinfin, shopped and got a taxi back. Went to the pub and then lolled about indoors watching tv, eating and drinking.

Today we made an early start as the chap in front of us was getting away and we wanted to share Stenson Lock with him to make it easier. As it happened there were 2 lock keepers on at Stenson so this would have been easy anyway.

We were moored just before the marina entrance at Willington before 9-15am! After soritn ourselves out we got the bus to Burton and did a few bits of shopping that we wanted then went to watch football at The Locomotive, as we do when we are in the vicinity of Burton.

Ken was perturbed to discover that they had a rather strange pricing policy for the lager. Our pint and a half of Carling (yes, the Real Ale was not to our liking) came to £5-40, so we had thought it was £3-60 a pint and £1-80 a half but no it wasn’t. When he went up for a last half they were charging £2-10 for a half!

The beer was actually only £3-30 a pint. So, we had had 5 pints between us which had we have had them in pints would have costed £16-50. However as we had 3 pints and 4 halves it cost £18-30, aaargh! Next time we will buy just pints.

Anyway, that aside we enjoyed the football. We returned to the boat and had a nice dinner of fresh mackerel, salad and new potatoes.

Ken has now turned his attention to his fishing exploits. We are staying here tomorrow and are planning to walk to Stenson.
