Willington to Branston – All going to plan today!

Today went exactly to plan, which is highly unusual in this business! Willington was chocker with moored boats when we went through this morning. We weren’t surprised judging by the number of boats that went past us late into last evening. However, we were lucky to be the first to arrive at the sanitary station.

With sanitary matters quickly executed we set off to travel the 7 miles and 2 locks to Branston. I like this trip because although it is a nice trip there is not much of interest to see and only 2 well spaced locks so I can get some cleaning, washing and drying done.

We were lucky at both the locks because there was a boat coming out of each one when we arrived so we could go straight in. Also, when we got to the moorings at Branston our favourite mooring by the dead tree was free.

We moored up and then had a shower while he water was hot. We left the engine running while we were doing this because I had the tumble dryer on. At least that was what I thought but I had in fact not turned the dial far enough round to start it so the clothes are still wet!

A trip to the local shop for a paper and a Bass at the Blacksmith’s was in order. One other boat had arrived by this time making us and 2 others. When we got back there were a few more boats nearer the bridge but still loads of room. But there was one boat moored so close in front of us we are nearly touching! As I type there is a huge space still free in front of this boat so why he needs to be this close to us I don’t know.

Ken got the hump and decamped to the back of the boat with his fishing gear! Tomorrow we are going to go to Barton Turns and funnily enough we are going to turn round and come back hopefully to the same space.
