Willington to …………. Willington – And a dangerous shopping trip in Burton!

We had a very long trip today consisting of 1 mile and a sanitary station stop. We were woken rather early (well I thought so anyway) by motorbikes revving and squawking dog walking ladies. Some people are so inconsiderate.

Ken couldn’t get back to sleep so he got up and I followed close behind. As it happened it was a good job we got early because when Ken went to see about the state of play at the sanitary station Boar’s Head were waiting for a boat to come off but because they wanted to pump out they said we could go first, very nice of them.

Anyway when Ken came back and announced that we were off to the sanitary station I hadn’t even been in the bathroom! I have never had a wash and got dressed so quick in my life!

With sanitary duties out of the way we cruised down to the footbridge just past the marina entrance and moored up. I finished my previously interrupted ablutions and then we went off to Burton again to change Ken’s small shirt.

We soon did this and he got some more trainer socks. The ones I got him yesterday were the no show ones and they kept falling down under his feet so he was really pissed off with them. I wore a pair of them today with no such problems so it looks like I have gained 5 pairs of no show trainer socks!

We then headed for the Cooper Centre so Ken could go to the trainer shop. There was so much choice but he got some smart new leather trainers. Van’s no less, he is such a trend setter!

As we came out of the trainer shop we had an encounter with a little old lady on a mobility scooter. Her husband was trying to hang their shopping bag on her handlebars and she lost concentration putting her foot on the accelerator rather than the brake, shooting forward and crashing straight into the back of Ken! Bless her she was so worried that she had hurt him.

Needless to say he was ok. I left him on a bench (as I do) while I went in search of a belt during which time I got run over by a pushchair in New Look! Dangerous occupation this shopping business!

We went off to the Lord Burton to recover. We sat outside in their newly refurbished outside area and until a large party of work colleagues turned up and started dragging the patio furniture all over the place it was quite pleasant.

At 1pm we decamped for the bus and went back to Willington where we plundered the reduced to clear section in the Coop, (they have huge reductions in there) and then went to The Dragon for one before walking back to the boat. Unfortunately the Bass tasted like vinegar and we had to take it back and have Pedigree instead.

Tomorrow we are going to Weston where we are going to The Cooper’s Arms for one of their carveries, We always think how nice they look and smell when we go there so this time we are going to indulge.
