What a beautiful day it’s been today, sunny most of the time and warm too. We have travelled 5 miles and 2 locks from Gunthorpe to Hazelfoerd and are moored below the lock in another of our favourite moorings.
We set off this morning before 9am and stopped at the rather better tap to finish filling the tank after yesterday’s poor effort. The lock keepers don’t start on here until 9-30 am as I have said before so we had plenty of time (unlike yesterday).
As soon as the lock keeper arrived he got the lock ready for us and we were on our way. It was really pleasant travelling today although the breeze was a bit strong and chilly at times when we weren’t in the sun never the less we enjoyed the trip.
When we got to Hazelford the lock was ready (a bonus of travelling out of season, no waiting) and we went straight in. When we came out of the lock there was no one moored at the bottom and we went and turned round before mooring right at the front below the lock, a spot which we like.
After we sorted ourselves out and had some lunch we walked to Fiskerton for a paper, some bread and some chips to go with tonight’s fish (from Southwold). Then we went to The Bromley of course. We sat outside in the sun and it was quite warm despite the breeze.
After a pleasant hour or so people watching (a bit more class than Wetherspoons!) we returned to the boat and Ken has been fishing more or less ever since (apart from when he cooked the dinner). He has caught a nice Barbel (his target fish for tonight) so he is chuffed.
Tomorrow Ken is doing the batteries and the greaser and I will be cleaning I expect. I have done the outside and I did the windows this evening, now the inside needs attention. Woman’s work …………
