Monday 9th August
Today we finally left Stone for the last time (for a while anyway) and are on our way back to Great Haywood to join the Staffs and Worcester canal. It is about 2 months since we went somewhere new. We have come the 5 miles and 2 locks to Salt. We are moored where the railway line is right by the canal. It is quite amazing how fast the trains go past here, they go by in a flash! It is a lovely mooring with a wide grassy towpath. Unfortunately we have been unable to take advantage of this and sit outside as it has rained almost ever since we got back from the pub!
Talking of the pub, we easily found The Hollybush, much to George’s delight after our efforts to find The Greyhound at Burston last week and had a pleasant couple of pints in the garden before it rained. George got a bit of fuss from some small children which he enjoyed as usual.
We may stay here tomorrow or move on a bit, we’ll have to see.
