Salt to Tixall

Tuesday 10th August

Today we have travelled 5 miles and 2 locks to the Tixall Wide on the Staffs and Worcester. We were thwarted at the water point at Anglo Welsh by a boat sneaking in there just as we came under the bridge. However, we didn’t really need water so it wasn’t too much of a problem. We turned on to the Staffs and Worcester and moored up about half a mile down. There were a couple of boats there with loose dogs running up and down the towpath. This caused a bit of a problem when I got George off so after we had been to the shop we moved up to the Tixall Wide. There were a lot of boats moored there already but we found a nice spot. As it was a lovely afternoon we sat out on the bank enjoying the peace and quiet…………………………….

………………………….That was until we were joined by the family from Hell! They moored behind us and the peace was shattered from then on. There were Granny and Granddad (who’s boat it was) Mum and 3 kids. The 2 girls were about 15 and 9 and were perfectly ok if the boy, who was about 14 and a right pain in the arse, left them alone. He started off fishing and wasn’t too bad, however, he was soon bored and started playing up. His Mum, languishing like a hippo in a deck chair, was constantly telling him off, loudly – actually they were all a bit loud. Granddad had rather voluminous wind which they thought was hugely funny and complained loudly about the smells! Then the eldest girl joined in as well!

Meanwhile the boy had been banished to the bedroom, from where he still managed to do something to earn an ear bashing from his Mum, who had to shout even louder to make him hear as she was outside! It was a nice evening but we eventually went inside to get away from them.

We hope not to run in to them again.
