Audlem to Coole Pilate (cool name!)

Tuesday 24th August

We haven’t moved very far today, only 2 miles and 3 locks, to Coole Pilate. As we had decided not to go very far we didn’t leave until after lunch. This morning we had a look round the village and as the shops are so close we did a bit more shopping. We also had a browse round in Audlem Mill. Then we moved the boat across from the 5 day moorings to the Pub side of the canal. We thought this would be less hassle and less embarrassing than trying to get George to walk over the lock to the Shroppie Fly! We didn’t succumb to the sandwiches and huge chips in the pub as we did yesterday, but stuck to the crisps!

While we were in the pub it started raining, again and the wind got up. But as it was only showery we decided to move on to Coole Pilate as planned. Thus we have come 2 miles and 3 locks. This is a leisure area with picnic tables and stands for your portable barbecues. However the weather was so inclement when we arrived I lit the fire and we haven’t made use of the picnic table! Although there were some hardy souls having barbecues and sitting outside (must be mad!) in the gale force winds and rain.

The next mile stone in our journey will be Nantwich about 4 miles from here.
