Day at Coole Pilate

Wednesday 25th August

We stayed at Coole Pilate today. The forecast was for heavy rain this afternoon so we took George for a little toddle to start with. We went back to the bridge, crossed the canal, then went along the canal through a field. He was really pleased when he saw the boat because he thought he was back. Wrong – we were, of course, on the other side of the canal! We were going to go up to the next bridge and cross the canal again, then come back, so it was a circlular walk but he wouldn’t go any further past the boat once he had seen it so we had to go back the way we had come, daft dog!

Because walking our decrepit dog doesn’t provide us with any exercise to speak of Ken and I, armed with waterproofs just in case, then walked the 2 miles back into Audlem for a paper. Oh all right, we may have dropped into the Shroppie Fly on the way back as well!

Also on the way back we picked a huge bag of damsons which I am going to make jam with I think, although if I can find a recipe for damson gin that may be more tempting!

The forecasted rain didn’t actually materialise until this evening and then it wasn’t that heavy. Tomorrow we are probably off to Nantwich.
