Coole Pilate to Barbridge

Thursday 25th August

We have excelled ourselves today, travelling 7 and a half miles and 2 locks to Barbridge. Barbridge is where the Chester Canal begins and the Middlewich Arm of the Shropshire Union branches off to the T and M at Middlewich (funnily enough).

We went past Hurleston Junction where the Langollen Canal starts. It is still too busy to go down there so we may do that on the way back. After we have been to Chester we are going on to Ellesmere Port, then we are going back to Audlem for a visit from Peter and Tim. By that time it will be the end of September so the Langollen will have calmed down, hopefully.

We had to try 2 pubs today as the first one was not very good! (See George’s Pub Guide). We have been recommended one for tomorrow, near Beeston Castle, so we’ll see if it’s any good.
