Monday 13th September
We have had a really good day here at Anderton. Actually, we were going to move on this morning and to this end Ken dismantled the satellite dish. This had taken some time to get into the right position the night before. This was because we were just in line with some trees which were blocking the signal. He had to disconnect the cable and put it through the window as it was not long enough for the dish to be moved back along the boat to avoid said trees while it was attatched to the front connector. Anyway it had taken ages to get right.
Then we thought we’d take George round the nature park before taking a look at the boat lift again before we went. George, however, thought 9 AM too early for a walk (especially as he knew the pub wouldn’t be open!) and after doing his business refused to go any further. So we put him back on board and went off to the boat lift. Unfortunately it doesn’t open until 10AM. We went back to the boat for a coffee and to decide what we were going to do. On the way back it started raining so we decided to stay here and wait for the boat lift to open.
We subsequently decided to stay here until tomorrow so Ken spent the next couple of hours putting a longer cable on the satellite dish and re-aligning it to avoid the trees again! By this time George reckoned it was worth going for a walk and we had a rather nice toddle in the nature park and down to the River Weaver. Then it was pub time of course and we went back to the Stanley Arms. Luckily they have a covered smoking area as it was raining quite hard by this time.
With our rather tired old pet deposited back on the boat for a kip, we went off to the Boat Lift Visitor Centre. We spent a very pleasant couple of hours looking at the exhibition, standing outside in the rain watching boats go up and down in the lift and sampling the delights of the tea room!
It has stopped raining now but for how long? We have to move tomorrow come rain or shine. The latter I hope but my hopes aren’t high.
