Anderton to Middlewich – Via Bramble Cutting

Tuesday 14th September

It’s been a day of three halves weatherwise. This morning started damp but got progressively worse, culminating in gale force winds and torrential rain This afternoon was quite pleasant. And this evening has seen a return of the wet stuff.

We had to move off the 48 hr moorings at Anderton today so that’s what we did, with the intention of going back to Bramble Cutting. First we had to turn round then we had to do the necessary at the sanitary station again. It was lightly raining at this point. After we set off I decided that as it was wet and I had already seen the scenery I would get on with some house (boat) work. There is not much point in both of us standing on the back of the boat getting soaked is there?

And get soaked Ken did (bless) as it absolutely hammered down with rain and the wind got up so much he couldn’t use an umbrella! I did feel sorry for him but there was nothing I could do. When we got to Bramble Cutting there was a boat already there and for some strange reason they had got their washing out! We managed to get in on the end of the mooring but it was a bit tight. Anyway, we had some lunch and lo and behold, the sun came out! After some consideration we decided not to stay at Bramble Cutting. It is a lovely place but you can’t get internet or tv there and if it’s pissing down Ken can’t fish and we can’t sit out on the bank so we thought we would carry on to Middlewich, just in case the weather had a relapse.

We had to go up the Big Lock and found a mooring alongside the children’s playground. This would not necessarily have been a good move had the weather been better but fortunately it has started raining again and sent the little darlings scurrying home!

We have been to Tesco’s (again) and taken George to the pub (again) and that’s it. Tomorrow we are going back to Church Minshull (again).
