Wednesday 15th September
Well, summer is officially over. No, correction, summer never really got here in the first place! Today the weather has been mostly, truly awful. While we were doing the locks in Middlewich it was not too bad, a bit nippy and breezy but ok. At the last lock the wind was noticably stronger and things went quickly down hill from there really. It’s a good job the new satellite dish is chained to the top of the boat otherwise we would be off buying another one now!
By the time we got here it had started raining and the wind was gale force. After we moored up we had Shroppie Shelf syndrome again but it was too wet and windy to go back outside and put the go kart tyres in at the time. We were blowing about and grinding on the concrete for ages until there was a window of opportunity to go out and get things sorted.
We had intended cleaning the chimney this afternoon after another sooty shower all over the top of the boat last night but decided not to do it in a gale force wind! Maybe it will be better tomorrow morning and we can do it before we move on to Hurleston, the start of the Langollen.
We aren’t doing the Langollen until Peter and Tim have been at the beginning of next week, but as we have plenty of time to get back to Audlem for Sunday, we just thought we’d have a look at the first flight of locks on the Langollen on the way past.
