Hurleston to Nantwich – A Huge Distance!

Friday 17th September

Here we are in Nantwich, some one and a half miles from where we were last night! Oh yes, we know how to get a move on!

This morning, just after the BBC weather man had said there would be no rain – it rained! However, this was only a short sharp shower and the rest of the day has been fine, if a bit cloudy and chilly at times. First thing, Ken and I had a walk up Hurleston locks and then round Hurleston reservoir. George was still languishing in his bed at this point!

We then managed to clean the chimney at last, hurrah! It didn’t take as long as we thought it would and it wasn’t as messy as we had thought it would be either. That said, everything is now covered in a thin layer of coal dust though!

After this bout of usefulness we moved on to Nantwich. The Shroppie Shelf seems worse here and soon we will need to get the inflatable out to reach the bank! We took George off on a little toddle to Acton to the pub. We sat outside by the fairly busy road, trying to have a conversation amidst the traffic noise and discovered just before we left that there was a nice seating area out the back of the pub! Ken had told the landlord we were sitting outside because we had George with us and he said we could bring him in to the pub but he never said there was a garden round the back!

George was pretty worn out by the time we got back, bless. After depositing him back in the boat Ken and I went off into Nantwich for a quick squizz round and to get a paper. It is a very nice town and is about a 15 min walk from where we are moored. We are going in again tomorrow to look at the indoor market and a pub no doubt!
