Friday 1st October.
Only just over 2 and a half miles of travel today and the weather has been awful! It rained steadily until late afternoon but at least the strong winds they forecast didn’t materialise. We have come over the Chirk Aqueduct which, at 70ft high is no where near as high as the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (126ft) and not as long, but gave Ken a bit of practice ready for tomorrow!
Straight after the aqueduct came the Chirk tunnel which is not very long but took ages to get through on account of the water being really shallow so we were creeping along and sometimes nearly stopping!
As the weather was so foul we decided to moor up at the first opportunity so we are opposite Chirk Marina and Golf Course. George would not get off the boat in the rain so Ken and I walked round to the Golf Club for a drink. It was, not surprisingly, full of golfers waiting for the coverage of the Ryder Cup to start on the tv. No luck there then? There were also a few boaters in from the marina and we had a nice chat with some Australians who had just finished their boat holiday.
Later this afternoon the sun actually came out, hurrah! We sat outside watching the Black Prince hire boats coming and going at the marina.
Tomorrow we are going over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, hopefully Ken won’t get an attack of vertigo!
