Day at Llangollen

Tuesday 5th September

Today we have stayed at Llangollen and had a lovely day. This morning we took George for a little toddle round the basin before Ken and I went on the steam train to Carrog. It was a 30 min journey alongside the River Dee most of the way. At Carrog station we had a cup of tea and a pasty, then it was back on the train for the return journey. The scenery was really nice and we did get a glimpse of the Horseshoe Falls, the weir Thomas Telford built to feed the canal. We didn’t get off the train to look at the falls because we had left George at home and we try not to leave him for too long nowadays.

When we got back George was ready for a pint so we took him down to the town again. This time we didn’t make him tackle the steep steps we found a slope instead! Ken had pork scratchings at the pub so George was really chuffed.

This afternoon one of our neighbours on the pontoon asked if he could look round the inside of the boat. I said if he’d asked this morning if he could look round this afternoon I would have tidied up a bit! And I would have found somewhere to hide the European ironing mountain still languishing on the dinette, despite the fact we are on the electric hookup. And I would have moved the airer full of sheets out of the shower. Ho hum!

We are leaving here tomorrow and will now be making our way to Mercia Marina on the T and M, where we will be spending November, December and January.
