Friday 18th March
This morning, before we set out for Trent Lock we were really useful! Ken did a bit of rubbing down and rust killing and I cleaned the side of the boat (I did the other side before we left the marina) in preparation for painting (ha ha).
After this flurry of activity we came 3 miles and 2 locks (one of them operated by a very nice lock keeper) to Trent Lock. At Sawley we decided to get water so we didn’t have to moor on the high wall at Trent Lock to get it. The hose at Sawley was reminiscent of a pressure washer which made this task very quick ………………. Or it would have done had I not accidentally knocked the hose out of the filler cap sending it skittering all over the place (like in the cartoons) and spraying everything in it’s path. I was going to do some interior cleaning later but I hadn’t anticipated hosing the whole lot down! George was most surprised to get a cold shower whilst asleep in his basket!
The rest of the trip was relatively uneventful and we arrived at Trent Lock just in time for a visit to the pub (surprise). The Trent Navigation has closed for refurbishment (oh no) but the Steamboat Inn (closed every time we have been here previously) has reopened (hurrah) so we sat outside there in the lovely warm sunshine. Unfortunately there wasn’t any real ale yet so we had Guinness and a cheese and ham cob, yum!
So we shall be here now until Monday when we will set off for Nottingham.
