Weekend at Trent Lock

Sunday 21st March

We have just spent the weekend here at Trent Lock. Yesterday it was really sunny although there was a bit of a chilly breeze in evidence if the sun did go in. Today has been quite windy and pretty cloudy.

On our way back from the pub yesterday we saw an unusual sight – a man was walking a pig! No, this vision was not a result of an over indulgence of Director’s on our part, he really was walking a pig. It was a cross between an Oxford and a Pot Bellied pig apparently. It was rooting the grass up as it went along the towpath. It was not dissimilar in size and shape to a certain dog we all know and love!

Today Barry and Barbara arrived from Zouch and had to spend quite some time battling the windy conditions before they could get moored up. This was a case of Sod’s law because we were the only boat on the pontoon moorings, as we had been most of the time we have been here. Barry and Barbara had come down Redhill Lock with another boat and being polite, they had let them go out of the lock first. When they both got to here this boat scooted in to the mooring space behind us and at the same time the scout’s ferry boat came back across the river and went into the space next to them on the inside of the pontoon. The only remaining space was on the inside of the pontoon next to us at the front but the wind was pretty strong and taking into account the flow of the river as well Barry had a bit of difficulty getting in to it. With a bit of manouvreing and some paint loss they got in and after a cup of tea we all adjourned to the pub!

Tomorrow we are heading for Nottingham.
