Monday 21st March
Today we have travelled 10 miles and 4 locks to Nottingham and after a quick stop at Sainsbury’s for supplies, have moored on the steps of the County Hall near Trent Bridge. It has been a lovely day weather wise, warm with not too much wind, ideal for doing the wide river which can be freezing in windy weather.
We were a little disappointed to find the Trent Bridge pub is currently closed for refurbishments. Although it will be a Wetherspoons when they are complete this was no good to us today! We had to go to The Riverside Bar which doesn’t allow dogs on the terrace (pretentious or what?) and is quite expensive (£1-30 for a packet of crisps) but it does have a lovely view over the river.
This is a good mooring from our point of view because we are at the bottom of several steps which means no one walks right past your boat but from George’s point of view the steps are a nightmare when he wants a wee!
Tomorrow we are off to Gunthorpe where we will be sampling the delights of The Unicorn again, where George IS allowed on the terrace!
