Day in Leeds

Thursday 7th April

We have spent the day in Leeds today because B and B had some of their family coming. Ken and I walked along the waterside and went to investigate the first 2 locks we have to do tomorrow when we leave. This proved to be useful for finding out how they worked, which key we needed to unlock them and we also saw a notice with information about the 2 staircase locks later in the journey, so that was useful too. We have to make an early start tomorrow as there can be problems with the local youth population in the suburbs and as they are on holiday already up here we need to get away before they think about getting out of bed!

Next we went to look at the market (calling in the fishing tackle shop, the location of which I found on the internet, on the way) which is indoor and outdoor and huge! Here we bought some DIY things (as usual) and some cheese and ham toasties. There are a great many meat and fish stalls in the indoor market and the fish actually looked good for a change. Unfortunately we hadn’t brought the cool bag so we didn’t get any.

The next stop was, yes you’ve guessed it, Wetherspoon’s! The location of this I also found on the internet, what a wonderful thing it is! We had a vantage point by the window and spent a happy hour people watching. Oh, and having a pint of course!

Returning to the boat I had to tackle the European ironing mountain, my favourite pastime – not! I could have had some of it done yesterday if the electric hook up here was working but it isn’t so I had to wait until we ran the engine this afternoon, by which time I had 2 lots! Aaaargh!

So tomorrow we are getting the Hell out of Dodge. The dogs will be pleased to see some grass again!
