Tuesday 28th June
I write to you from Anderton Marina, where we are spending the night after having our new prop fitted today. Only a week after the first enquiry to the insurance company, Towergate Mardon, which is not bad really. We can’t fault them – ok they needed a little push yesterday but overall a quick response. We can’t fault Anderton Marina either who did the estimate on the day we first asked and e mailed it directly to Towergate that same day. (I also e mailed it a couple of days later, unnecessarily as it turned out.) Then when we got the go ahead they said we could have it done today, tomorrow or Thursday this week. We went up the boat lift this morning at 9-15 am accompanied by Pete and Dave on Nb Hyskeir who moored in front of us last night and came to the lift on the off chance this morning. Then we went in to Anderton Marina and the chap doing the job arrived with the prop about 11 am. It would take one and a half hours to empty the dry dock and a couple of hours to do the job so we had to take George out until about 3 pm. We decided to take him to The Stanley Arms, a 10 min walk for us. It took us 35 mins to get him there, bless. We sat in the garden until the pub opened then took him inside. He slept nearly all the while, except when we had crisps, until we left about 2-30 pm. When we got back they were just about to get the boat out of the dry dock. We had noticed, on the way back, that the moorings on the towpath between the marina and the boat lift had all become full so we asked if we could stay in the marina tonight to save us struggling to find somewhere to moor up. We went back to the pub tonight for dinner which was very nice, no washing up and I had a pudding too! Tomorrow we are off to Middlewich.
