Wednesday 29th June
Today we have finally moved more than a few yards and travelled 9 miles to Middlewich. The new prop is smooth – too smooth. The whining is so loud I could hear it inside the boat with the hoover going! Aaaargh, just when we thought our prop problems were over. We had a whine on the last one, before we bashed it up on the Rochdale but it pales into insignificance compared with the whine we’ve got now. Ho hum, hopefully it will wear itself in. Mind you the last one never did.
Just as an aside to the insurance claim thing, we are still waiting to hear anything at all from both Jalsea Marina and Northwich Marina regarding estimates we asked them for last week. Good job Anderton Marina were more efficient!
We are moored just upstream of Big Lock in Middlewich and attempted to take George to the pub of the same name. Unfortunately it was taken over by new management, just this day and didn’t open until 3 pm! George was really disgruntled when we returned to the boat so soon. Hopefully we can get him there again tomorrow. Ken and I went to Tesco’s then to The Narrowboat, a very nice pub, after a false start at the King’s Arms (loud music and no real ale) where we had to sneak out before the bar person put in an appearance.
It’s like Piccadilly Circus along here, both on the canal, which we haven’t been used to lately and the towpath. There seems to be a lot of the local youth roaming around and what a bunch of tealeaves! We had a bit of police crime scene tape (a souvenir of our time in Thurmaston) tied to the mooring ring, to make it more noticable so people don’t trip over it and a girl who was walking past untied it and nicked it! Can you believe that?
