Kidsgrove to Congleton – A Bit Uneventful Really

Wednesday 6th July

It has been a day of sunshine and showers. Well more showers than sunshine. Actually more rain than showers as well. In fact it has been pretty wet today with a few sunny spells! We have come 6 miles and 1 stop lock from Kidsgrove to Congleton.

When we arrived at Congleton we moored in the cutting below the Queen’s Head. This is the nearest place to find a shop and as we were in such close proximity to the pub we thought it would be churlish not to take George there! He made it up the very steep steps a good deal better than he did when we walked him there from the embankment last year, bless! Ken decided to go off to the shop for a paper – ‘Before it rains again’ – and got wet on the way back!

After we left the pub we moved up to the embankment where there are only 2 other boats so far, compared to a full house at Kidsgrove last night. They haven’t cut the grass along here lately so I had to get the shears out so I could see out of the windows! It has rained (and hailed) most of the time since we got here so I haven’t been able to see out of the windows anyway and Ken’s fishing plans have been abandonned.

Tomorrow we are going to Dane’s Aqueduct and doing Bosley Locks on Friday.
