Friday 29th July
We have moved a little bit further today 4.5 miles and 4 locks to Middlewich. Ken had to top up the batteries first thing, we think a couple of them are on the way out which is unfortunate. Consequently we were a bit later leaving than we usually are and we were following another boat, as has been the case for the last few days, so progress down the locks was slow.
There was an empty space above King’s Lock when we eventually got here so we stopped. Well, there was actually another space but the bank has collapsed there and there is a BW no mooring notice on it. It is pretty shallow here too, the boat in front of us is on the bottom most of the time.
We took himself for a toddle to The King’s Lock and he was delighted to get several pats off the landlady who really took to him. We did a bit of gongoozling as the pub is right on the lock. A boat we came down from Red Bull with was coming back up, having been on the Weaver already, they’re keen!
This mooring is ok being situated as it is – opposite a shop, near the pub and near the fish and chip shop (very nice fish and chips!) but the downside is -it is right beside the main road making it very noisy. You can’t have everything I suppose.
We are going to stop here for the weekend and do a bit of painting I think. We don’t want to get to Anderton until Monday so we are in with more of a chance of there being someone available to do our prop.
