Monday 22nd August
It has been a lovely day here, warm and mostly sunny – just like Summer! We have travelled about 8.5 miles and done Bosley Locks and are moored on Gurnett Aqueduct. There are a few more boats here than there were last time we were here but it is not full.
As we were mooring up, a bloke I have never met before stopped his bike and asked me if I knew the Waltons. I was racking my brains to think who he was talking about but I couldn’t so I said no. He said he was talking about the Waltons off the tv programme and thought I must know them because I was dressed like them. I was wearing cut off denim dungarees, a t shirt, crocs and Ken’s green fishing hat. Now I don’t purport to be a picture of sartorial elegance and I had just done 12 locks but really, looking like the Waltons, what a nerve!
It was quite late by our standards by the time we got here and George wanted to go to Sutton Hall. I told him he would miss his dinner time but he insisted on going and his dinner was 45 min late! Sutton Hall is a bit pricey but we like it there, we got a bit of a Reverend (short measure) Flowers Original for the first pint and at £3-20 that is a bit naughty but what the heck.
This evening Ken and Barry have been fishing but I don’t think they have caught much! Tomorrow we are going to stay here and walk in to Macclesfield if I discover it isn’t too far. I know we went shopping the other day but we have come up with another list of things we want. But not cheap shit reading glasses because I have found the ones Ken lost, they were under his chair. God knows how they got there!
