Day at Ellesmere

Monday 19th September

As I said we were going to we stayed at Ellesmere today and did a Tesco shop this morning. When we returned we were going to go back down the town and look round the other shops before having a pint. George who had not been out yesterday, so he was well rested, started jumping up and down and spinning round. This is his way of saying ‘is it time to go to the pub yet?’ As he was so enthusiastic we decided to forego our look round the shops (I would only have found something I wanted) and take him with us. He managed the trip in only 25 mins, which is good, believe me!

We were just setting off when Barbara phoned to say they were nearly there and were there any moorings? The one in front of us had been recently vacated and retaken but there were several more further behind us. As they have to run their engine fairly frequently and at odd hours at the moment B and B don’t like to moor too near other boats (except us of course who they don’t care if they piss off) because of the noise, fumes etc, if they can help it.

As we had gone by the time they arrived, when they had got moored up Barbara phoned again to find out which pub we were in. She was very surprised when I said we weren’t in the pub. This was not a lie as we were outside avoiding the resident pub boxer which was inside. They soon joined us and we all sat outside – freezing!

On the way back B and B had to do some shopping. Ken went in to Tesco’s to get some scones and when they got back we all had afternoon tea, very civilised! George and I carried on walking while Ken went in Tesco’s and we were nearly back at the boat by the time he caught up which surprised us.

Tomorrow we are moving on to the Lion Quays, a rather posh pub, restaurant, country club and spa, by the canal at Moreton, where we are meeting Cathy and Mick.
