Sunday 16th October
Today we have travelled all of 2 miles and 4 locks from Gailey to the Otherton Boat Haven, just outside Penkridge. During the trip we met a chap who used to live in Beccles and another chap whose uncle used to manage Adnam’s Brewery in Southwold! It was quite a slow journey due to the abundance of fishermen lining the bank as it was Sunday and match fishing time! To be fair they weren’t all miserable gits but most of them were!
We moored up opposite the Otherton Boat Haven and as we have not actually been into the village before we walked in. After getting a paper and a ‘few things’ in the Coop, we went in The White Hart which is a nice enough pub, fabulous pint of Abbott, really fresh crisps and lovely clean toilets, but the woman behind the bar had a face like a well smacked bottom (Ken reckons she looks like Ray Winston) and the personality of a door! No wonder it has one of those ‘Run this Pub’ signs outside, shame.
Tomorrow is supposed to be the last decent day weatherwise (until next Spring no doubt) so we are going to move up a bit nearer to the village and take George to the Cross Keys or The Boat, while we can still sit outside. Ken is also going to venture to the fishing tackle shop as he has been fishing a lot lately and needs supplies.
