Foxton to Welford

Thursday 15th March

There was a very foggy start to the day today, things briefly improved early afternoon with a tiny glimpse of the sun for about an hour, then it returned to cloudy and chilly conditions.

Despite not being able to see a hand in front of your face first thing (well, it wasn’t quite that bad) we did the 10 locks of the Foxton Flight and then travelled  the 7.75 miles from Foxton to the Welford Arm. We were not travelling particularly fast and had the Husband’s Bosworth Tunnel to do as well so the total journey time, including 45 minutes for the locks, was about 4 hours.

We have moored a little way before the entrance to the Welford Arm and B and B have moored a little way beyond it (something we said?) On our arrival George, unusually, decided a little walk was in order and took me quite a way along the bank, back in the direction we had just come. This was a good thing as it was a mile and three quarters in to the village so he was unable to accompany us there anyway.

We could have taken the boat up the arm if we had wanted to but opted for the ‘healthy walk in to the village’ option (Ken needs the exercise!) to find the shop. Unfortunately we didn’t know where the shop was and had to go in the Wharf Inn to ask for directions which was a real shame!  We wanted to get some bread, a paper and some cash but the latter proved hard to come by as the P O doesn’t do HSBC withdrawals and my Barclay’s account was a bit lacking! We need to find an ATM!

As it is going to rain hard on Saturday we are going to get to Crick tomorrow and go in to Rugby on the bus on Saturday.
