Friday 16th March
Today we have come another 10.5 miles (no locks) from the Welford Arm to Crick. We stopped at Yelvertoft for water and the trip took just over 4 hours. The canal was very shallow in places and the need for rain is evident.
B and B were going to move on to Yelvertoft today but stopped a little way before.
As there were no locks for me to do and as it was not a very nice day for standing on the back of the boat, ie cold and breezy, I took the opportunity to do some washing, cooking and cleaning (very domesticated!). I made a lovely minced beef pie for us tea.
When we arrived at Crick we moored on the (practically empty) winter moorings opposite the marina. These moorings don’t revert from their winter moorings status to 14 days until the end of the month but as there were only 2 other boats on them we thought it would be ok to stop here.
George was keen to go out when we got here so we took him for a walk before walking in to the village ourselves. We had to find the whereabouts of The Wheatsheaf pub because that is where we have to catch the bus to Rugby tomorrow. As we were right outside we thought it would be churlish not to go in to The Wheatsheaf! It is a very nice pub with, we are told, fabulous home made chips and home made desserts to die for, on the menu. We may have to sample them tomorrow night!
We popped in the Co op for a paper before heading back to the boat for my rather brilliant home made minced beef pie!
