Wednesday 30th May
After a very pleasant, quiet night Monday, in the moorings near the prison, we made our way back on to the Thames on Tuesday morning. There were only 2 boats on the Tesco moorings when we arrived so we got in easily to do our shopping. Unfortunately by the time we had done the shopping and put it away I was buggered so we had to stay there for the rest of the day. I managed a short stroll back in to town, I need to keep moving but did nothing else all day.
This morning my back was ok when I got up but shortly afterwards things went tits up and I was really upset because I hadn’t done anything except make a cup of tea! We had to move on today though because – a) we were taking up a mooring, b) we were really low on water, c) the loo cassette needed emptying and d) we were accumulating the European rubbish and newspaper mountain, so I (over)dosed myself up with tablets and off we went. Luckily all the medication did the trick and touch wood things are pretty good at the moment, hopefully they shall remain so.
We have travelled 7 miles and 2 locks today and having done the necessary at Mapledurham Lock carried on to Pangbourne where we are moored just downstream of Whitchurch Lock. It is a lovely location to moor being rural but near the town (although we haven’t been there) and with a wide grassy area between the moorings and the foot path so you don’t get bothered by walkers and cyclists passing right near the boat.
It has been really hot again and George has been suffering a bit with the heat. I took him out for a wee when we got here and by the time he had done that and tangled with a boxer and 2 other dogs which hassled him he was knackered, bless! Consequently we couldn’t take him to the pub at Whitchurch, if it had been a bit cooler we would have done.
Unfortunately these moorings are only 24 hours which is a shame because we would have liked to stay another day.
