Friday 8th June
With the weather forecast being dire for Thursday and Friday, yesterday (Thursday) we decided to move a mile up the canal to Thrupp. This would mean we would be near the bus stop to go to Oxford, nearer the Coop at Kidlington and near a better pub than the Highwayman!
We initially moored on the 48 hour moorings outside The Jolly Boatman but we subsequently realised one of the two 14 day moorings nearby was free so we moved in to it. We have decided to stay here until Monday.
After mooring up, taking advantage of the fact that it had yet to start raining, we took George for a little walk, he really can’t (or doesn’t want to) walk very far nowadays. Then we took him to The Jolly Boatman. Although we could have taken him in to the pub we didn’t, we sat in their very impressive and comfortable covered outside seating area. It did start raining about 1pm but it wasn’t cold and obviously we didn’t get wet in the covered area!
Today (Friday) we went to Oxford on the bus (Stagecoach, £3-40, very reasonable) with the intention of having a good look round. However the weather was absolutely appalling, wet and windy, not conducive to sight seeing! My back was playing up (again) too so we had to repair to the Wetherspoon’s so I could apply some treatment and have a sit down. I am getting really fed up with myself now, bloody old wreck!
Tomorrow’s weather should be better but we are going to stay here and do a few jobs and take George out again. Sunday we may go to Banbury on the bus.
