Lower Heyford to Aynho

Wednesday 13th June

Another lovely day and we have come 6 miles and 3 locks from Lower Heyford to Aynho. It took quite a long time to get here as we spent an hour on the water point first thing having been pipped to the post by another boat. Then when we eventually set off we rarely got above tick over because there were a lot of moored boats along this stretch.

However, it was a lovely cruising day and we enjoyed it. There were a few boats on the move but not that many. In fact we have noticed that there seem to be more boats on the move later in the day at the moment and well into the evenings too, than there are in the mornings.

On our arrival at Aynho we managed to winkle in to a space, right on the end, before bridge 190 but on inspection discovered there was plenty of room the other side of the bridge! We stayed where we were though. The pub was near enough (just over the bridge) to give George a little trip out. He is really tired most of the time these days but he toddled off quite happily to the pub where he promptly fell asleep again, in a patch of mud! There was a nice bit of grass he could have laid on but he chose the mud.

Tomorrow we are hoping to get to Banbury.
