Tuesday 12th March
Finally this morning there was a bit of decent cruising weather as it was sunny, the wind had dropped and the temperature was a bit above freezing! So off we went from Branston to Alrewas, via the rubbish bins at the cafe, and the water point at Barton Turns.
When we got to Alrewas we saw Mick and Sue (they left the marina a few days before us) and Mick told us he had broken his hand. He was getting off the boat in Fradley last week, slipped on an icy patch and went arse over tit, poor old sod! You have to be so careful in this weather.
After a trip to the Coop and Coate’s butchers for sausages we returned to the boat via The William IV (where we had a rather dubiously titled beer called Jennings Cross Buttock!) and The Crown. We also couldn’t resist the home made jam stall in the village and got a nice jar of plum.
It was reassuring to see the hire boaters moored on the water point and the lock approach this afternoon, as they do, bless.
After all the titting about of the last week it now feels as if we have really started our cruise although we are going in to Burton on the bus tomorrow (fishing tackle shop among other things) so we haven’t quite left yet!
