Friday 22nd March
There was no snow as yet today but there was a very cold wind! We decided to go in to Coventry on the bus. Another Stagecoach bus and this time the fare was £6 but it was a longer trip than the one we took to Nuneaton.
The bus stand in Coventry was well placed for visiting the cathedral, shopping and of course the other place we like to go! Cathedral first we thought. However, as Coventry cathedral (the old one) has no windows, roof and very few walls it was a little chilly in this gale force arctic wind to hang around for long! We gave it a cursory look, promising to return in better weather and headed for the warmth of the shopping mall!
We did a few bits of shopping (bitumen and plastic containers mostly) and had a look round the extensive market hall before going to the Flying Standard. We found a nice table, got settled, then discovered we were in the ‘reserved for diners’ section! As our lunch was going to be liquid we moved upstairs to the ‘nearly all students from the Uni’ section which was rather noisy and we couldn’t understand a word they were saying. We were like – oh my God!
Ken was also perturbed to discover that although there was a bar upstairs the beer we wanted was only available from the downstairs one! Still the exercise was good for him.
Returning to the boat in the afternoon we roared up the fire, battened down the hatches and braced ourselves for the snow, which started at 4-30 pm. How much we will get remains to be seen.
