Nottingham to Trent Lock – Lovely Cruising Day

Before we left this morning Ken went off to get a couple of bits from Sainsbury’s. I called him back to give him a voucher for £2-34 off. When he handed it in the cashier pointed out that it was in fact a voucher telling us we had saved £2-34 yesterday! He was not best pleased.

It has been a lovely Spring day, mild and bright and the trip from Nottingham to Trent Lock was very pleasant. Well, Ken said it was, I was inside most of the time cleaning! I did put in an appearance for the two locks.

When we arrived at Trent Lock we moored opposite the Trent Valley Sailing Club, a mooring we like, although there is a certain amount of interference with the tv signal every time a train goes across the river!

As it was such a nice day we decided to walk to Sawley for a pint of Abbott in The Harrington. It is about a 30 min walk from Trent Lock to Sawley and incorporates 3 very awkward stiles which aren’t really stiles. Apparently, although it is an official footpath someone doesn’t want people walking there so the ‘stiles’ are made as difficult to get over as possible. No one seems to take any notice though!

Tomorrow we start our trip up the Soar, one of our favourite rivers.
