Weekend at Zouch and Zouch to Barrow upon Soar

We spent a very pleasant few days at Zouch before moving on today to Barrow upon Soar.

Friday morning I touched up the blacking on the Port side and Ken checked the batteries and the stern tube. We finished this quite early and did indeed go in to Loughborough on the bus. This took about 15 minutes on the Skylink Nottingham.

Loughborough is much like any other town and we did the usual things we do when we go to town, ie. shopping and pubbing!

We had intended to move on to Barrow upon Soar on Saturday but it was cold and windy when we got up so we decided to stay where we were. We don’t often travel on Sundays because of the potential for running in to a fishing match (more likely now it is the closed season on the rivers) so we stayed Sunday as well.

So both days we went in to Loughborough again to watch football at the Tap and Clapper. Saturday we went on the bus and Sunday we walked in along the river.

This was a very pleasant walk of about 3.5 miles and took an hour and 10 minutes. We came back on the bus but as it was Sunday the Skylink Nottingham, which goes through Zouch during the week, didn’t run so we had to get the Skylink Derby, get off in Hathern and walk the last mile back to the boat!

Today we have travelled 7 miles and 4 locks to Barrow and are moored just above the lock. The volunteer lock keeper was not actually on duty at Barrow Deep Lock but he still gave us a hand to come up, bless.

Tomorrow we are moving on again probably to Syston.
