Sunday 24th October
Today we travelled 2 miles to turn round, then 2 miles back to Hopwas, where we stopped for a pint at the Tame Otter again before travelling another mile and a half to Whittington, where Ken hoped to catch another zander. Fat chance – he couldn’t even catch any small fish to use as bait! I expect the zander have eaten them all!
It was a lovely sunny morning and early afternoon. Indeed it was quite warm sitting outside the pub, I have been colder outside pubs during the summer. The Graphics Boat was moored near the pub so we got them to do a transfer of our BW number for us. We have been meaning to get it done for ages. In fact we did call at their boat when we saw it the first time we were in Norbury but they weren’t in.
The upshot of this was that, before I could stick the number on, I had to clean the boat (bugger!) So when we moored up at Whittington I set to. Unfortunately I had hardly started when it rained rather heavily. This turned out to be only a shower and I soon finished the job. Just as well because it hailed several times after that! Good job Ken had given the fishing up as a bad job by then too!
Monday 25th October
This morning there was a really sharp frost and I had cardboard ropes again! We have travelled 6 and a half miles and 1 lock back to Fradley Junction where we are moored behind – Mick and Cathy, who came back here yesterday. They were then on their way to the Swan (where else) when they saw me on the lock and hung around to watch Ken negotiate the junction!
After mooring up we took George to the Swan and he was pleased to be taken inside by the fire and the crisps! The pub dog came into the bar at one point, took one look at George and remembering the other day, scarpered, bless!
When we got back from the pub, as we are moored on the opposite side to last night, I cleaned the other side of the boat and put the other BW number on. Very productive!
It is supposed to rain a lot tomorrow so we are probably going to stay here and move on to Alrewas on Wednesday.
