Pollington to Ferrybridge

Sunday 3rd April

Today we have managed to travel 9 miles and 2 locks to Ferrybridge and are moored just downstream of the flood lock. The forecast was not good but once again it didn’t turn out as bad as they said. In fact it didn’t rain until about 6-30 pm and then for only about 20 minutes.

When we got here we went in search of a shop and found a little row of shops just over the lock. Only the convenience store was open with it being Sunday but we only needed milk and a paper so it was ideal. Barbara only went in for milk and a paper but emerged clutching the European cake and biscuit mountain as well!

Ken and I then went to The Golden Lion. Not the best pub we have ever been to it has to be said. The carvery looked and smelled absolutely lovely and there were several people partaking. From our point of view though it was a bit lacking, there was no real ale (bad news) so I said I’d have Guinness but they had run out (even worse news) so we had to have John Smith’s (rubbish). On top of this, as it was Mother’s Day, there were a lot of families in and the children seemed to be using the pub as a playground, running between the tables and screaming. Needless to say it was a fairly short session!

Tomorrow we are off to Castleford which is about 10 miles from Leeds.
