Castleford to Woodlesford

Tuesday 5th April

Here we are, 5 miles from Leeds, at Woodlesford moored above the lock. The weather turned out to be nothing like the wet and windy forecast so we could have easily got to Leeds but preferred a more rural setting for today. The lock is well tended with lovely landscaping and tubs of spring flowers in bloom, very pretty.

The mooring is very good except for one thing – dog poo, aaargh! I cleared up loads of it when we first got here. The grass had been cut recently too, so it was well spread about! I was chuntering on about inconsiderate dog owners for quite a while.

The village/town is about a 10 minute walk from the canal and has a Co-op, Lidl, Post Office, chippy, Chinese takeaway etc and of course some pubs! We sampled the delights of the Midland Hotel which was very nice.

George was very good today, when B and B came for a cup of tea Kizzy stood on the side of the boat while he was in his cage and he just looked at her. He didn’t growl or anything. Then when he came indoors Kizzy got in his cage and went to sleep and again he didn’t bat an eyelid, bless. Maybe he’s mellowing in his old age.

Leeds tomorrow then.
